Meet Adam*, a 17 year old immigrant was referred to CGC because he was struggling with depression, self-harm, and substance use. Adam was trapped in the US – separated from extended family and friends when the borders of his home country closed due to COVID. During this time, his best friend back home died by suicide.

Adam was feeling increasingly isolated due to remote school and lack of socialization. After completing trauma focused therapy at CGC, Adam and his clinician printed and cut up his trauma narrative – the story about his traumatic experiences they had created together over the course of treatment – so that Adam could leave small pieces of it along the family’s multi-country journey home to symbolize letting go of some of the pain from the past two years.
