The Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut (CGC) is pleased to announce its first video in over a decade, Hope for Kids with Mental Illness. The video was created to shine a light on the thousands of children facing mental health challenges in Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, and Stamford each year. With personal accounts from former clients, board members and community partners, the video explains how CGC offers support and treatment to these children and families – regardless of their ability to pay. Given the fact that 1 in 5 children suffers from a mental health disorder, CGC hopes the video will also open up the incredibly important conversation around kids’ mental health in our own community.

“More and more we see children suffering with lots of mental health challenges,” explained Stamford Public Schools’ District Department Head for Social Work Joe O’Callaghan. “Without having a place like the Child Guidance Center to provide support for those kids, they wouldn’t get what they needed, and kids would suffer terribly.”

“With this video we hope that our community begins to speak more openly about children’s mental health challenges and are encouraged to seek assistance when they are struggling,” explained Dr. Brenner. “Our promises to the children and families who seek our help: We will never turn you away based on your financial circumstances, and we will provide the best care possible to help you overcome and manage your challenges.”
