Jenna* is six years-old.  Since infancy she has witnessed extensive domestic violence. Her stepfather was physically abusive toward her mother and emotionally abusive to Jenna. Due to Jenna’s unstable home life, she was often sad and frequently contemplated self-harm. Eventually she was referred to CGC.

When she began play therapy, Jenna’s clinician encouraged her to play with toys and draw pictures. Through these interactions, the clinician was able to assess and treat Jenna’s sadness and self-injurious thinking.

After a few months of therapy, CGC’s therapist witnessed improvements in behaviors and parent-child interactions. Jenna is now able to better express her emotions verbally which has not only helped with her and her mother’s relationship, but has also opened her up socially at school.
