From January to March 2016, nearly 600 children received mental health support services from the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut (CGC). That is approximately 200 children a month! Yet, there are so many more youth struggling with mental illness, abuse, or trauma that are in desperate need of CGC’s help. That’s why CGC has partnered with Magician Ben Zabin to host “An Evening of iLLUSiON” this Friday, May 13, 2016. CGC’s President and CEO, Dr. Eliot Brenner said, “the goal of this event is to entertain the families of our community, while also increasing awareness about the mental health needs of our youth. It is time for our community to come together to erase the stigma around mental health, and ensure that all children are receiving the mental health care that they need.”

Magician Ben Zabin will be taking the stage at Greenwich Country Day School’s Performing Arts Center with some of the tri-state area’s top illusionists in support of the CGC and Mental Health Awareness Month. Organizing a magic show to raise funds for CGC was an easy decision for Mr. Zabin to make. “Throughout my career, there have been so many people that have helped me along the way, so I decided to do this show in order to give back to the community that has been so amazing to me. My mother served on the CGC Board of Directors for many years, and I couldn’t think of a better organization to support,” Mr. Zabin explained.

“We are incredibly grateful for this partnership with Ben,” says CGC’s Development Director, Jeannine Egdorf. “He has graciously agreed to donate 100% of the magic show’s proceeds to CGC, helping us provide much needed mental health services to the youth of our community.” To help illustrate how important the funds raised by this magic show are to the services CGC provides, consider that the sale of five general admission tickets will provide supplies for play and art therapy, while the sale of ten general admission tickets will cover the cost of travel for a CGC Crisis Clinician to go to a home, school, or other community location to prevent a child from harming them self or someone else. Every dollar raised will be directly invested into providing a child with the tools to live a better life.

Not only will this show be supporting and increasing awareness of the mental health needs of our youth, but it will truly be a remarkable experience for an entire family. Magician Ben Zabin said, “throughout the show, audiences will be treated to a rare, yet incredible blend of Las Vegas style illusion, mind reading, comedy, sleight of hand, and audience participation. Some of the tri-state area’s top magicians will be on the stage, bringing families in the community a show they’ll never forget.”

“An Evening of iLLUSiON” will take place on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Greenwich Country Day School’s Performing Arts Center (401 Old Church Road, Greenwich, CT 06830). Doors open at 6:30pm and show starts at 7:00pm. General admission tickets are $10, and VIP tickets are $25.
