Greenwich United Way Funds CGC Programs

The Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut (CGC) has received a grant for $90,000 from the Greenwich United Way. Funding supports the Child and Family Therapy program that serves children and adolescents in Greenwich and surrounding communities, regardless of the families’ ability to pay.

The Child and Family Therapy Program (CFT) has been an integral component of CGC since its founding in 1954. CFT helps children and teens decrease the risk that emotional and behavioral problems will limit their future prospects. By fostering early identification of mental health issues and timely treatment, children and families receive the tools they need to manage life’s challenges. The demand for CFT is particularly strong in Fairfield County, where many mental health providers in private practice do not accept Medicaid or even private insurance, and an exceptionally large population of families are uninsured or underinsured.

CGC’s President and CEO, Dr. Eliot Brenner, said “We are grateful to the Greenwich United Way for their generous support of our organization. These funds have a major impact on our ability to provide quality mental health services to children and adolescents most in need. Many of the families we serve are considered low income and require subsidies for payment. These granted funds help offset the cost for our critical services.”
