In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Child Advocacy Center of Southern Connecticut is hosting a Open House on Thursday, April 20th at 8am at the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut on Greyrock Place in Stamford.

The Child Advocacy Center is a child-friendly, neutral environment in which youth from Stamford, Greenwich, and Darien, who have experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse, and/or neglect, are interviewed for forensic purposes and are connected with mental health, advocacy, and medical services. During the Open House, the community is invited to tour the forensic interview space and learn more about how its Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) works together to investigate disclosures of abuse and help children and their families heal. The MDT is composed of local law enforcement, the State’s Attorneys Office, medical personnel, Juvenile and Adult Probation, mental health professionals, forensic interviewers, and victim advocates.

“With this Open House we hope to educate the community about the availability of our services,” explained CGC’s Director of Victim Services, Setta Mushegian, MSW. “All members of the MDT will be present, so this will be a great opportunity for people to learn more about each member’s specific role and how we work together to help children and families overcome difficult life circumstances.”

The Child Advocacy Center has been a part of CGC since 1989.  The event is open to the public and will take place at CGC, 196 Greyrock Place, Stamford, CT, 06901 from 8:00am-9:00am. Coffee, tea, and pastries will be available. Please RSVP at http://bit.ly/CACOpenHouse.
