APA ACCREDITED DOCTORAL PSYCHOLOGY INTERNSHIP

Internship at Child Guidance Center (CGC) is a one-year full-time program focusing on the development of clinical skills with children and families within the community mental health system. Our mission is to improve the mental and behavioral health of children and teens through treatment, education, and community support. To this aim, supervisors at CGC support interns’ growth through reflective supervision, which emphasizes collaborative reflection that builds on the Intern’s use of his/her thoughts, feelings, and values within a clinical activity. Particular attention is given to the Intern’s personal history and identity as relevant to developing their capacity to work effectively with issues of diversity and individual difference.

The doctoral psychology internship program at (CGC) is to produce professional psychologists equipped with the essential intervention and assessment skills requisite to improving the mental and behavioral health of children and families who present a broad range of psychosocial and economical background. Upon graduation, interns will be capable of providing the full range of services needed to work within a community based mental health setting, and in particular, the skills to engage and work with the various systems that impact each child. The overarching training objective of the doctoral internship program at CGC is to enhance professional skills under supervision and to provide a means for the intern to develop and mature in their professional identity as a clinician and a functioning member of a clinical team.

The Doctoral Psychology Internship (Child and Adolescent) Program at CGC is an APPIC-member program (number 1605), and abide by the policies set forth by APPIC.
