April 2007
Come Play!
With silent and live auctions featuring everything from a Yamaha V Star motorcycle to a children's Porsche pedal car, guests sporting black tie and playground chic attire gathered to celebrate at our annual benefit. Come Play! was held on Saturday, April 21st at the newly renovated Western Greenwich Civic Center and raised more than $240,000 to support the center's professional mental health services for children and adolescents in Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan and Stamford.
The theme was chosen by the event committee to highlight the significance of play in the lives of children. Debby Lash, co-chaired the event with Leslie Lee, Laurel Forst, Carol Winklevoss and Jane Dean. Come Play! included a reception, dinner, dancing and a live auction led by auctioneer Richard Madley, a frequent guest on PBS's "Antiques Roadshow."
As Dr. Alvin Rosenfeld, author of "The Overscheduled Child" reminded the 250 guests, "Play is the language used by children to convey their fears, dreams, hopes and aspirations." Regaining the ability to "engage in imaginative spontaneous play" is often an important component of the therapeutic process, he added.
We hope our guest enjoyed the evening's playful spirit and the opportunity to help children rediscover the joys of play.
~
The Child Guidance Center extends our most sincere gratitude to the Sponsors who helped make our annual benefit such a success.
